The first few days in US were tough. Getting used to the weather and food was the main highlights. The new colleagues at the office were really warm and helpful which made the stay their pleasant. We bought some Indian groceries and started cooking dinners. For lunch we usually ventured into different cuisines and I must stay initially I struggled with the taste. but slowly I started enjoying it. We had all types of food – Thai, Italian, Chinese, Salad Bars, Mexican, American, Different kinds of pizzas and of course Indian.
So after 5 days of work came the much awaited weekend and time to visit some friends in New Jersey. I reached Pinkesh and Yesha’s place on Friday night. Later in the night we went to New York to experience its night life. New York is a city that is awake all round the day. We went to a club and then at around 2 AM in the night had some tasty junk food. It started to snow around this time and temp was quite low. The next morning was a beautiful site. Everything – houses, roads, cars and trees was cover in a pure white. This was my first snow and I had an awesome time playing in it.
New Jersey is the Indian Hub of East Coast. There are cities within NJ like Edison which are almost entirely occupied by Indians. You will find all varieties of authentic Indian Food here. Even Holi, Navratri and other festivals are celebrated in full enthusiasm at many temples.
My trips to NJ were more to meet friends but there are many places worth visiting –
Exchange Place is a district of Downtown Jersey City. The square is about 200 feet long located at the foot of Montgomery Street at the Hudson River. The beauty of this place lies in its sky touching sky scrapers and visibility of the Statue of Liberty. Some attractions in this area are the Colgate Clock, Goldman Sachs Tower, Liberty State Park, etc.
Atlantic City is the mini Vegas of the East Coast. Enjoy world class entertainment and night life, Casinos and Spas. Have heard that the Borgota and Harrahs are among the good casinos there.
One can also enjoy Tubing, kayaking and canoeing in the Delaware River. It is one of the Summer time attractions. There are many providers around that area where you can enjoy these adventures.
Other attractions include Whale Watching, Sailing the sea with unique Pirate experience and much more…
Just wish to add a special thanks to all my sweet friends in US for making my visit so memorable…
